Many students presume that the tech college or university track is still the most effective. So why then are commercial certificates beginning to overtake it? The IT sector now recognises that to cover the necessary commercial skill-sets, official accreditation from such organisations as Adobe, Microsoft, CISCO and CompTIA often is more effective in the commercial field - for considerably less. Essentially, only that which is required is learned. It isn't quite as lean as that might sound, but the principle remains that students need to concentrate on the fundamentally important skill-sets (including a degree of required background) - without trying to cram in everything else (as degree courses are known to do).

Which is the most straightforward: Wade your way through a mass of different academic qualifications from graduate applicants, struggling to grasp what they've learned and what trade skills they've mastered, or select a specialised number of commercial certifications that precisely match your needs, and then select who you want to interview from that. You'll then be able to concentrate on getting a feel for the person at interview - rather than establishing whether they can do a specific task.

At times folks don't really get what information technology is all about. It is ground-breaking, exciting, and means you're doing your bit in the gigantic wave of technology that will change our world over the next few decades. We're barely starting to get to grips with how all this change will affect us. How we communicate and interact with everyone around us will be significantly affected by technology and the web.
